Fast charging at the coffee stop: FLO's plan for 100 Tim Hortons

A fast-charging stop takes a little while, and Canadians already know where they like to wait: somewhere with a coffee. That is the idea behind a plan from charging network FLO and Tim Hortons, announced on August 27, 2025. Here is what the announcement says.

What was announced

According to FLO's press release:

  • Target: fast chargers at 100 Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada by the end of 2028.
  • Coverage: all 10 provinces, so the plan is coast to coast rather than limited to one region.
  • Size of each site: an average of four charging ports per restaurant.
  • Hardware: FLO's Ultra fast chargers, used through the FLO mobile app.
  • Milestones: the first location was already operating in Regina, Saskatchewan at the time of the announcement, with up to 14 locations planned by the end of 2025 and 50 in total targeted for 2026.

Averaging four ports across 100 restaurants works out to roughly 400 fast charging ports if the plan is delivered in full. That is our arithmetic from FLO's two figures, not a number FLO states itself.

What it is not

This is a plan, not a count of working chargers. We have not independently verified how many of these sites are open today, and the milestones above are FLO's own targets. The release does not say which restaurants are next, so check the FLO app or the network's news page for current sites before you rely on one for a trip.

We also did not quote a charging speed or range-per-minute figure. FLO gives one in its release, but it does not name a rating standard, and a charging time depends on your vehicle's own maximum charge rate and battery state.

Where the money fits

FLO is also one of the companies named in the Canada Infrastructure Bank's charging initiative, which we covered in Ottawa's EV charging money, tallied. The CIB's own initiative page only states a minimum $500 million allocation and its eligibility rules. We have not confirmed whether the Tim Hortons sites are part of that financing, so please do not read the two as connected.

Why a shopper might care

Fast chargers at a place you already stop make a long drive easier to plan, especially in provinces where public fast charging is thin. We will keep tracking network announcements here, and add station counts once we can cite a dated public dataset.
