Longest-range EVs under $50,000 in Canada (September 2026)

  • data

A $50,000 budget used to mean trading range for price. We searched our database for every 2025-or-newer EV listed under $50,000 CAD, sorted by rated range, highest first.

That turned up 30 trims once every battery size and option package is counted separately. The table below keeps one entry per model — the longest-range trim available under $50,000.

VehicleMSRP (CAD)RangeStandard
2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV$41,999513 kmEPA
2026 Nissan LEAF S PLUS$39,995488 kmEPA
2026 Volkswagen ID.4$49,995468 kmNRCan
2026 Tesla Model 3$39,490463 kmNRCan
2025 Kia EV6 Light RWD$48,995435 kmNRCan
2025 Hyundai Kona Electric$46,299420 kmNRCan
2025 Volvo EX30 Extended Range$48,950420 kmNRCan
2025 Kia Niro EV$46,995407 kmNRCan

A word on the "Standard" column: EPA and NRCan rate range using different test cycles, so treat these figures as a rough guide across rows rather than an exact comparison — a vehicle rated by EPA is not necessarily longer-legged than one a few kilometres behind it on NRCan's scale.

The Equinox EV leads on range at 513 km, ahead of everything else here by a comfortable margin — but it isn't the cheapest entry. Both the Tesla Model 3 ($39,490) and the Nissan LEAF S PLUS ($39,995) undercut it on price while still clearing 460 km. Six of the eight entries are SUVs; the LEAF is the lone hatchback and the Model 3 the lone sedan. Price and range don't line up neatly elsewhere on the list either — the priciest entry, the ID.4 at $49,995, lands mid-table at 468 km.

This is a snapshot of starting prices, not a ranking of quality — MSRP excludes freight, PDI, and any provincial or federal incentives you might qualify for, and a higher trim on any of these models can trade range for features or add both.
